While Chief Operating Officer at Intrexon, Tom Bostick oversaw a groundbreaking biotechnology collaboration between subsidiary Oxitec and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, aimed at controlling malaria. Oxitec developed and released a strain of mosquitoes designed to significantly reduce the population of a targeted mosquito species in the wild without impact on human or environmental health. This integrated vector control program aims to dramatically reduce wild populations of malaria-transmitting mosquito species -- ultimately reducing cases and deaths due to malaria. Pictured here is Bostick at the opening of the mosquito factory in Brazil, and Bostick as a speaker at a health and biotechnology conference in Brazil, representing Intrexon in both cases.
